JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — A few dozen Air National Guardsmen of the 211th Rescue Squadron and supporting Airmen from other 176th Wing units will return from a deployment to Iraq at approximately 4:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
The 211th RQS operates the HC-130J Combat King II combat search and rescue aircraft. During their deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, 211th RQS Airmen partnered with other CSAR Airmen and were ready to search for and rescue isolated U.S. and allied personnel throughout the region.
Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve continues to work by, with and through regional partners to militarily defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, in order to enable whole-of-coalition governmental actions to increase regional stability.
The HC-130J is the only dedicated fixed-wing personnel-recovery platform in the Air Force inventory and is an extended-range version of the C-130J Hercules transport. Its mission is to rapidly deploy to execute combatant commander directed recovery operations to austere airfields and denied territory for expeditionary, all-weather personnel recovery operations to include airdrop, airland, helicopter air-to-air refueling, and forward-area ground refueling missions.
The Guardsmen will arrive at JBER in two HC-130s and will be met by family and wing leadership.
Reporters are asked to arrive early based on the likelihood of the timeline changing to a sooner arrival. Wing leadership will be available to speak about the deployment while reporters wait.
